ESG at Claridge's

Introduction

Claridge's is shaped by centuries of enduring artistry. A rich symphony of experience, where every moment unfolds with unforgettable flair. A place where tradition is treasured and history continues to inspire. For over two hundred years, those who choose Claridge's for life's finest moments become part of its brilliant legacy.

Alongside its deep roots in craftsmanship and elegance, Claridge's is committed to operating as an ethical and responsible hotel. Guided by a dedicated ESG committee, the hotel has invested in new technologies and strengthened policies to ensure sustainability is an increasingly key part of operations and seamlessly integrated into the guest experience.

Claridge's achieved ‘ESG Excellent’ status in its 2025 assessment, recognising the commitment of its team and the meaningful progress made across environmental, social and governance priorities over the last year.

Thomas Kochs, Managing Director

“Hospitality is more than service; it is stewardship. Our ESG journey reflects our promise to care for people, community and planet with the same dedication we bring to our guests. It is a commitment to operate thoughtfully, to honour the heritage of our surroundings and to ensure that every decision we make contributes to a more sustainable and equitable future. As we continue to evolve, we do so with a clear sense of responsibility, protecting what matters today while shaping a legacy that endures for generations.”

    Inclusion and Belonging

At Claridge’s, we strive to nurture a culture of inclusion and belonging, where everyone feels respected, valued and able to thrive at work.

All colleagues undergo diversity and inclusion training during induction and last year we ran numerous initiatives to recognise and celebrate the diversity of our colleagues. A particular highlight was hosting guest-chef takeovers in the colleague restaurant, where food from a specific culture was served for the day.

      Training and Development

Claridge’s supports the continual learning and development of colleagues, investing in their long-term career progression.

We run a comprehensive induction process for new team members and, throughout their careers with us, colleagues have access to a wide range of training opportunities to hone their skills. In addition, Heads of Department and Executive Planning Committee members participate in the Clifton Strengths programme which nurtures personal growth and team effectiveness.

Our Aspiring Leaders and Developing Leaders programmes provide comprehensive skills and leadership training for high potential colleagues, ensuring we develop a strong talent pipeline. This is complemented by our Step Up programme, which is designed for career progression beyond these programmes, along with our Talent Plus initiative, which strengthens succession planning for senior leadership roles. In 2025, we welcomed 33 colleagues into these programmes.

        Health & Safety

Protecting the wellbeing and safety of our people and guests is a fundamental priority. Our ongoing health and safety strategy comprises a suite of policies, regular training and a dedicated health and safety committee.

Recent initiatives have strengthened our approach further. In the last year, 100 colleagues completed Action Counters Terrorism training which has reinforced clear procedures to help safeguard the hotel and its community.

          Planet

          Energy and Carbon

          Energy and Carbon

Our annual carbon calculation enables us to track performance, identify trends and focus on the most impactful reduction opportunities. Together with the other Maybourne hotels, we are working toward achieving Net Zero emissions by 2045.

All London Maybourne hotels are now on a 100% renewable electricity tariff secured through a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA).

The CPPA guarantees that all our electricity is sourced directly from wind and solar farms.

To reduce overall energy use, we have invested in efficiency technologies, including schedule-based lighting that automatically dims during the brightest parts of the day. We are also installing submeters across the hotel to provide detailed insights into energy hotspots. This will help prioritise interventions that will deliver the greatest impact.

A recent addition for our guests is the charging station located in Three Kings Yard. Guests can conveniently use this during their stay with the knowledge that their vehicle is being charged by renewable energy.

            Plastics and Packaging

We are actively working to eliminate single-use plastics wherever possible. In partnership with our main amenity supplier, we have removed unnecessary plastic packaging from the guest-room products that we purchase.

Our chefs continue to engage directly with suppliers to reduce single-use plastics and introduce more sustainable alternatives. Many food deliveries now arrive in reusable crates that are returned to the supplier and several produce items, such as aubergines, are now delivered unpackaged rather than wrapped in plastic.

              Assessing Climate Risk

A climate risk assessment was carried out for Claridge’s in 2023 and again in 2025. These assessments identified the key climate-related risks the hotel faces now and in the years ahead, along with potential mitigation measures to strengthen long-term resilience.

Flooding is a risk for the hotel and one we have already considered. Following a basement flood in 2021, a flood-alleviation pump was installed as a key mitigation measure to help protect the hotel from future events.

                Partnerships

                The Drinks Trust

Claridge’s, alongside other London hotels, holds a close partnership with The Drinks Trust, an organisation which provides financial assistance, emotional support and development opportunities for individuals working in the drinks industry.

The partnership is mutually beneficial: Claridge’s fundraises to support the Trust’s work and our colleagues gain access to valuable resources and training. For example, our Wellbeing Champions receive specialist training from The Drinks Trust.

                  Partnerships

                  The Felix Project

We are committed to reducing the amount of food waste thrown away by the hotel. As part of this, we work closely with The Felix Project which redistributes surplus food to food banks, charities, schools and holiday clubs across London. In 2025, we contributed 2.56 tonnes of food, equivalent to 6,100 meals.

                    Partnerships

                    Local London Partnerships

London hotels are part of West One, a network of luxury hotels in the area who collaborate and share industry insights. Anonymised pay data is shared for different job roles across the network, enabling us to benchmark pay against our peers and ensuring fair and market-driven wages.

This past year, Claridge’s pay levels were reviewed against the West One benchmark and confirmed to be in the 75th percentile, in line with our previous target.

                      Partnerships

Partnerships Supporting Early Careers In Hospitality

Claridge’s is committed to supporting early careers in hospitality by creating opportunities to learn, grow and build long-term pathways in the sector:

                      • Hospitality Connect: a scheme which introduces school students to hospitality jobs through partnerships with local hotels like Claridge’s.
                      • Step Ahead: an organisation providing support for people in the local area who are struggling to enter the workforce.
                      • Local schools and colleges: we partner with a number of local educational institutions to offer structured culinary work-experience programmes, as well as apprenticeship opportunities.

Claridge’s currently has three apprentices and can demonstrate a number of success stories from students who participated in our work-experience scheme and have since joined us in full-time roles.
